[ROUTE ANALYTICS] What is GPS Spoofer and how to detect it?

The Route Analytics report now shows if there is a suspect of GPS Spoofer used on routes. But what is GPS Spoofer, and how do I find this information? Check for more details below.

What is GPS Spoofer?

GPS Spoofer is basically a Fake GPS. This is commonly used to set the location of the mobile device to anywhere in the world. Some drivers can use Fake GPS to modify their real location, so they can cheat the system, simulating that they delivered in a different location or that they went to places in different moments.

This is a problematic behavior that can create confusing data outcomes such as:

  • Unrealistic increase of Driver Click Score

  • Wrong Estimated Time of Arrival (ETA) calculation

  • Wrong data learning on delivery time windows

  • Wrong data learning on driver speed


And others! This really messes up with the automated way to model the reality that we build in Foxtrot Systems.


How do I find and interpret this information?

Through the "Beta: GPS Spoofer Suspected" column of the Route Analytics report, Foxtrot Systems alerts the supervisor if GPS Spoofer is suspected or not. The classification is as follows:

  • 0_unlikely: it is unlikely the driver used a spoofer

  • 1_somewhat_likely: there is a 0% to 50% chance that the driver used a spoofer

  • 2_quite_likely: there is a 50% to 75% chance that the driver used a spoofer

  • 3_very_likely: there is a 75% to 99% chance that the driver used a spoofer


Hopefully, the drivers are all unlikely GPS Spoofer users!
